Incorporating mid-1800s barn beams into a new custom home

Were currently building for clients that wanted to know if we could incorporate an old distressed mid-1800s barn beam and posts into their new custom home. This was a first but were always up for a challenge. The 500+ pound beam had to be lifted by a tractor to measure and cut. The beam and post were then driven by tractor to the back of the house where we were able to maneuver them through the sliding glass door opening then position them where they would be eventually be installed. Four men and two commercial lifts were then able to hold the beam in position while two post were cut to size and placed under the beam for support. We are looking forward to seeing the finished product in the coming weeks. Photos to follow!
